Winterization: How to drain vacuum breaker to prevent freeze damage

Here is a 10 Step Simple Process to drain vacuum breaker to prevent freeze damage:

Step 1: First go to controller and turn on first zone manual to start system running.
 


 

Step 2: Find main shut off valve, you will here water running thru pipe.

 


 

Step 3: Find main shut off valve, you will here water running thru pipe.Go to vaccum breaker and with standard screw driver open both test cocks.

 


 

Step 4: Second test cock open.

 


 

Step 5: Remove lower drain cap or open hose spicot.

 


 

Step 6: Turn ball valve to 45 degree angle to not trap water.

 


 

Step 7: Turn ball valve to 45 degree angle to not trap water.

 


 

Step 8: Turn ball valve to 45 degree angle to not trap water.

 


 

Step 9: In basement open any inside drains. Drain water into bucket, this will prevent any damage to the system during freeze condition.
